Ranch Bliss 2014

For the last two years, Tim's company has graciously allowed us to spend a couple nights at their ridiculously amazing dude ranch in Wyoming.  My mom has been able to fly in both years and spend time with the kids and me while Tim works.  Don't feel bad.  He gets to go up there multiple times every year and take romantic horseback rides with all the college girls:)  We stayed in the same dreamy cabin that hangs over the rushing river, meaning we fall asleep to the sound of the river.  Did I mention it's dreamy?  My mom took both kids in her room this go round, which was a gift in and of itself.

We had fantabulous weather for 2 days and it was colder and drizzly the day we left.  We'll take it.  Below documents the bliss we experienced at A-A Ranch this year.  Tim is NOT allowed to ever leave his job, by the way.  This has become a family highlight and we hope to continue the trend for years to come.  Hint hint dad.

The 3.5 hour drive up is worth the 1, 568 "when are going to be at da cabin Mamas"

He may be battered, bruised and toothless, but our Dude can smile with the best of um.

I saw beauty in this barbed wire.  The color and serenity around it softened it's hard edges.  Kinda how I feel these days.

The company's working cattle ranch is our first stop.  We eat mashed potatoes, bean casserole and a fresh slab of meat with the cowboys, Tim hands out paychecks and gets the latest with the cattle, we roam the grounds, play in the stream, chuck some cow pies into the water, and head on our way.  It's a beautiful thing watching my hubbie bond with his cowboy and cowgirl friends.  They adore him - imagine that.

Below are last year's matching shots.  The belly has reduced, as have the cheeks.  Sigh...

The little green antennae poking over my son's shoulder belong to "Bug," his brave butterfly.  Bug goes with us whenever we might need to put on brave wings.

This happens....well, next to never without screaming following the embrace, so I captured it.

Looks peaceful and charming, but what's really happening is my daughter is screaming at the herd of horses to come over to her RIGHT NOW or they'll all be put in time out.

This rockin tree fort was a new addition this year.  It's a hangout for the high school ranch guests during the summer.  We got it all to ourselves since the ranch isn't open yet when we visit.

Battle wound.  It's healed up nicely now.

They were hiding from me.  Job well done kids.

Squirt would have nothing to do with the horses last year.  This year?  She was all about it.  And all about the attention from the wranglers who thought she was rather irresistible.

Cosby, Squirt's pony, had just as much attitude as my daughter does.  Perfect match.

Why is this third horse hanging out in the pen?  He's best friends with the other white horse and if you separate them, they'll scream in your face the entire time.  We tried the night before this shot and Mr. Quest would have nothing to do with us while Mr. Cahn wasn't nearby.

Dude's lady crush, cowgirl Lynne.  She's the very best.

I told him to take his stick by this rad building and play.  That he did.  Squirt refused.

We go through Steamboat on our way home.  I go a bit camera crazy, but how can I not?  Look at this beauty people.  Right in our backyard.

Dude sang themes from various movies the entire way home.  3.5 hours.  I kid you not.  I believe he's squeaking out the chorus to Angry Birds during this shot.

Until next year bliss.
