Some Serious Cuteness Comin' Your Way

I know. No words for the cuteness factor of this little poser. We took in the sunshine today folks. For 4 hours. We walked with Riles and Maria, looked for bugs with our magnifying glass, climbed trees, frolicked at the park with our new friend Holden, walked to the grocery store for a ride on the penny-eating horse, ate doughnuts at Starbucks, visited new neighborhood friends and proceeded to take a solid 3 hour nap. I'm pretty sure he didn't move an inch during those 3 hours. Gotta love sunny, warm, energy sapping spring days.

Rain Drops Keep Fallin' on our Heads

We've had a boat load of rain here as of late. Everything is green and growing and spring like, which is grrrrreat. We love Spring and all that it brings...dead worms all over the driveway, dude wanting to pick each and every one up without dirtying his dainty hands, the constant presence of the little man's red rain boots, his excitement over a new dandelion growing in our recently fertilized lawn....Although, we aren't real pumped about the next 4 days of rain and low 50's they're predicting. That'll make soccer game #3 a real gas. Dude might choose to simply not even get out of the stroller on Saturday morning.

Here are some fun shots from our Springy fun.

Eat, Drink, Pray, Love

This past weekend was a little taste of heaven. For so many reasons. Among those reasons are a mini-road trip to Loveland, a dog named Mellow, a green pool ball thrown at Mellow, 24 hours of uninterrupted talk time for my darling hubbie and me, card games, booze, a brewery tour and fellowship with fellow church couples, lots of love from my dude, skyping with Nanna and Pappa, an injury free tree cutting mission and happy hour.

Explanation. Tim and I joined a slew of other couples from our church, young and old, for a marriage retreat in Loveland this weekend. Time away to focus on each other's love banks, get to know other couples in the church, talk about what makes marriages tick and tock and enjoy lots of tasty complimentary drinks. Oh, and sleep until you feel like getting your lazy bones out of bed rather than wake up to an immediate rousing game of Hungry Hippos. Tim and I do a lot of girls and guys weekends, so this was a lovely reminder that time away together is an oh so wonderful thing too.

A big group of marriage retreaters went to the New Belgium brewery. Really, it's just an excuse to drink free beer samples. Not so much of a tour.

After you're done sampling, you're free to hula hoop. And so we did.

What did we do with the dude you might be wondering? Dude stayed home with our new heroes, Brian and Lindsay. They partied hard, 3 year old style, the entire time we were gone. Along with the addition of this SUPER fun couple came their dog Mellow. You can only imagine dude's nervous glee. We wished them luck and left, very confident that he was in good hands. And he was. He entertained them and vice verse, with only one time out for throwing a pool ball at the dog. Surprising? Not so much. The dog survived. Lindsay and dude even drew pictures of everything they did on the back slider window. See the photo below. Rock star babysitters. THANK YOU Brian and Lindsay for making our LOVEland weekend possible. I'm pleased to report that dude DID miss us, despite his level of parent free fun. He hugged me all day Sunday and kept telling me that he was "so happy to see me from the mountains." Little love.

We also cut down a disease ridden tree by our patio, which we were pretty proud of. Saved the $300 we were told it would cost to cut it down. And Tim didn't cut off any of his appendages, which he was pretty stoked about. Thanks Bruce for lending us your handy dandy chain saw friend. And last, but not least, we celebrated our buds Maria and Tim's new bambino, Maria's birthday and the start of Spring (aka, outdoor happy hour) with our first 2010 happy hour last night. Yum and yeah is all I have to say about that. That wraps up the weekend! Hope yours was just as lovely.

Flashback of Cuteness

I came across this endearing video of my dude that put me in nostalgic mommy mode. I don't go there often, but how could I not after watching this? The learning how to walk, learning your first few words, learning how to use modern technology phase of life. Now he knows how to operate a computer, runs around like a crazed monkey and speaks more words than I care for him to know. Oh little man. What a munchkin you were and what a little dude you are now. Where did 3 years go? Enjoy this one Pappa. For some reason, you were always the imaginary person on the phone back then.

Dude's 3rd Annual Auto Show

My hubbie adores nothing more than automobiles (well, most days he would probably say Dude and I rank above car related activities, but some days I would say it's a toss up). He continues to impress me with his knowledge of all things car. Naturally, the Auto Show is a must do activity for our little fam each and every year. Dude has been blessed to attend this automobile showcase extravaganza and be surrounded by cars, trucks, vans, semis and trailers of every size, shape, color, make and model every year of his short life. The first 2 years, Pappa has joined in the the blessing and last year Nanna even took the plunge. This year it was just the three of us, but we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 hours in the midst of car heaven.

Dude picked two cars that he loved most. The first was the orange Audi R8 below. He jumped out of his stroller, started rubbing his hands around the shiny orange surface, telling everyone around him that this was his "favorite race car and it was coming home to Wylan's garage to-NIGHT!" The second was a black BMW M3, decked out for racing. Mmmm...Daddy took quite an interest in this one too, so maybe there's hope for a father-son hobby down the road. Dude hugged it a lot, saying it was his "very favorite car at the car show." It did have pink numbers on it, but we'll pretend that didn't play a role in his favoritism.
One of dude's highlights was hangin' with the big blue bear outside the convention center.

We had a fantastic balmy weekend round here. Side note...soccer game #2 was a smidge better (in part). Dude did great during practice...took his turn, followed direction, kicked the ball, learned how to dribble the ball (at a snail's pace) and seemed to be enjoying himself. Until it came time to start the game. Then he wanted "butter jelly" (at 9:30am) and wanted nothing to do with running up and down the field. And so he sat on the sideline with me asking if we could go home and talking about all the foods he was craving. We need to leave room for progress right? We certainly have room.

The Tims stood in as substitute coaches this week. Excellent job boys. Excellent job.

Dudeisms for the week

At church - an elderly woman is drinking her coffee and most of it is ending up on her coat and down her chin. Dude is staring at her and shouts, "Lady, why are you dripping out your mouth? Mommy, look at the lady dripping!" Luckily, I don't think her hearing was very good and just kept patting him on the head.

Dude's trying to drive a car around the kitchen and is getting frustrated that it's not obeying his commands. He says, under his breath, "Car, you're driving me NUTS!" Mmmmm...maybe I should NOT say that to my son anymore. Funny how you don't realize these things until they come out of your child's innocent mouth. Bad Mommy.

His latest response when we ask him to do things is, "Sure thing" or "Sure I can."

Tim was laying on the couch and dude wanted him to play. So he says, "Get off da couch lazy pants!" Probably doesn't help that I laughed my hynie off, only encouraging this disrespectful behavior.

Tim came home from a long day of skiing a couple weeks back, looking a bit disheveled. Ok, a lot disheveled. Dude says, "Hi Daddy" and stops in his tracks when he get a glance at his typically very handsome and put together daddy. Then he says, "Daddy, why your hair SO greasy? Take a shower and fix your hair Daddy."

Every morning since my parents left...."Mommy, go open Nanna, Pappa's door. Say Saprise! Wylan's here!" And then I cry. Thanks dude.
About 37 times per day, we hear this: "Mom, Dad, watch dis!" He might be trying to do a somersault, scrunching his little nose or just standing there, thinking about what he could do to "wow" us.

I threw these in here because Bradster and duder were super cute in their matching shirts the other day. They got quite a kick out of it too.

Easter Joy

Having my parents here for Easter made the day that much sweeter. We started the morning with an awesome church service. It's not often that I get lost in the moment during singing, but that morning I did. Dude was in my arms, my parents and hubbie to my right, the sun was shining and we were singing about the most amazing and coolest thing ever done for man kind. I won't bother going into the hysteria that was the dude during the children's sermon on the front steps and I'll just leave you with this blissful picture of the morning.

Following church we headed over to Oma Bosch's house for the annual Jansen Easter get together. One of our very favorite days of the year. The weather was outstanding. This was the first time my parents joined in the Easter festivities, so we enjoyed throwing them into the egg hunt mix. The food was fantastic and we left happy campers, with tons of candy that will sit on our counter for the next 4 months.

Hope you had a great Easter. We miss our Nanna and Pappa and smile every time we think about the ginormous amounts of fun we had while they were here. Love you guys.

Our Pint Sized Beckham

"Ball" was Dude's first word. It's his favorite thing to play with (whip at people and animals). We have balls coming out of every crevice of our home. And so we've decided to introduce dude to playing with balls in an organized fashion. First stop, Little Kickers Soccer at our local park. Our (I say "our" because it was a family effort) first game was Saturday. I've been searching for the most appropriate and descriptive words to give you an idea of what that one hour period of time was like, but haven't quite come up with what my brain truly wants to say. And so I'll give it my best.

We arrived at the field, XS shin guards and super super high black socks in place, new shiny red #3 soccer ball from Pappa in hand, ready to play. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and spirits were high.

Step #1. Watch the other children playing so dude could somewhat grasp what he was about to venture into. Not interested. He just wanted to kick the ball into the field where the game was taking place, so we moved as far away from the field as possible.

Step #2. Meet Coach Nate and get our new jersey on. Not interested. He was cool with the shirt he had on and wanted nothing to do with a wardrobe change, so we bribed him with future M&Ms to get the stupid thing over his head.

Step #3. Time to start the half hour practice (aka, stand with your team of 6 other Little Kickers and listen to your coach). Not so much interested. He did join the opposing team, kick their ball and run around in circles. That's something right? Tim stepped in at that point and corralled him like he would a flock of sheep. It worked for the most part, so Dad became a 3rd coach at that point.

It went uphill and started to get cute at that point. For a while. The kiddos stretched, ran around the field in a line, kicked the ball back and forth (dude got stuck with a 4.5 year old soccer genius who kept complaining the dude was kicking the ball the wrong way and making him run every time). Sorry kid. The ball and his foot were making contact and that was worth celebrating. Granted, the orange cones did find their way to dude's head, but that was to be expected.

My fellow soccer mom, Maria

Step #4. Game time. Dude sat on the side lines, waiting for his turn to hit the field. When it came time, he approached me, informed me that he wanted a butter jelly sandwich and milk and refused to play until he got it. He found his way to Nanna's lap, sat down, gave her a kiss and asked her for the same snack. We didn't bring food with. Why? We're stupid. We know our child and we knew that he would want a snack. And so Tim ran home and made a butter jelly sandwich.

Dude feasted on it and then ran around the field like a little bouncy ball. I had to be out there with him, but he did go. And he did get quite p-o'd that he couldn't kick the ball. Why couldn't he kick the ball? Because the rock star 4.5 year olds dominated the field and made all the 3 year old cry. Every single one. Some cried multiple times. Some cried the entire time and others just once to let out their pure exhaustion.

Step #5. Half time. For dude, half time was done time. He plopped down in our bike stroller, announcing that it was "Time to go home now! I ALL done with soccer game. No more soccer for Wylan." He sat there, staring forward, refusing to speak or look at any of us. But, since we only had 2 team members willing to play at that point, I eventually convinced him (through bribery of a snack) to come back out to the field. He did, much to his dismay, and he ended the morning like a champion, running through the parent tunnel with pride. And then he got a snack and we went home.

God bless us, we'll do this all again next Saturday. And the Saturday after that and after that and after that. The uplifting news is that the little man is exhibiting some athletic ability. Let's hope he warms up to this soccer stuff. And if he doesn't, the whole thing is pretty darn cute and all us parents sure do get good laughs out of it. That's all we really expected from a bunch of 3 year olds trying to play organized soccer anyway.

Oh Happy Days

Nanna and Pappa are finally here after months of asking if TODAY is the day. When dude woke up yesterday, they were asleep in the guest room and the happiness has been overflowing ever since. We met Tim at work yesterday and went out to lunch and headed to the Children's Museum this morning (Nanna's favorite little people place to go). Dude has his very first soccer game tomorrow morning (a little anxious about this milestone, I must admit...here's hoping he doesn't kick someone in the nose or decide to run to the park mid-game). Both very likely.

The very first time Duder let me put him in a painting smock AND the very first time he allowed his dainty little hands to be dirtied by the paint. Notice the smile! We're getting places.

I'll briefly mention the fact that it's my dad's birthday tomorrow and won't mention which one it is (60) as he's not thrilled about the reality of it. So, we'll go out for lunch and us adults will head out for a fancy French dinner tomorrow night. I'll update this with some footage of the "soccer" game tomorrow. For now, enjoy some shots of our Nanna and Pappa time thus far.

Matching dude and his pappa (they're pointing to the little horses on their shirts, symbolizing the matching).
