My 4 Day Wife

Ever wish you had a wife ladies?  I didn't - until my gal pal Amy left me on Friday.  She came to town to offer assistance to my newly babied self and also gave us the priceless gift of doing photo shoots of us and Miss Squirt.  Oh the pictures....I can't even begin to describe their beauty and charm.  Birth announcements will be ordered soon, so keep your pants on.

Amy ditched (I mean, took a much needed break) from her hubby and 2 little boys and helped me in every possible way while she was here.  Playing with attention needing Dude, feeding and talking sweetly to Squirt, making food, allowing me to shower AND blow dry my hair...she was the very best thing I could have asked for.  And I am so very sad that she's gone.  Despite both of our passion for all things photographic, we only mustered out one measly photo with the two of us.

Things are going well at camp Vogel.  Squirt is sleeping like a champ at night and is pretty easy during the day.  The new formula has definitely made a big difference.  It's so easy to forget how much work this newborn phase is.  God makes us block it out as the years go by for good reason.  Duder is his normal spunky self...no extra special acting out taking place.  Yet.  He has us laughing constantly.  The things that come out of his almost 4 year old mouth.  Mind boggling.   My hubby has been a rock star dad and is extremely helpful and hands on.  Don't know what I'd do without him.

That's all for today.  More cuteness to come.

Our very first hand band bow, courtesy of our friend Kate.  Not the best shot, but she does look darn cute in it.  Thanks friend!

Our little munchkins.  Dude adores his baby sis.  Can you tell?

My favorite super hero.  Minus the pants of course.

Little Chunkeroo

Our little Squirt is rather teeny to the average eye, but she's leaps and bounds above where she needs to be in terms of growth.  We went for her 2 week check-up yesterday and she's already at 9lbs .6 oz and 20.75 inches long.  She was 8.2 last week and 19 in. when we went in.  Needless to say, Doc says to keep doing what we're doing and not to worry a bit about her growth.  She's way above the curve.  And her cheeks are proof.
We switched her formula to a more gentle product, which has made worlds difference for her gassy nature.  I will try my darndest not to talk about poop on this blog since most of you aren't in the poop phase of life like I am, so I'll just leave it at that.  She's happier and healthier which means this Mama is happier as a result. Duder is doing well too.  Still not acting out, which is a blessing.  A special shout out to all of my lovelies who are taking him under their wing and showing him a good time.  That makes a world of difference.  For all of us at Casa Vogel.

More pics below.  Peace out friends.

Oh how Dude loves kissing his baby sis.  The violent head grab prior to the kiss is what we're aiming to eliminate.

Squirt's first big brother casualty.  Note what Dude is doing and note the big green streak of market on my babe's little head.

Uncle Lance and Aunt Katie dropped in with breakfast.  How cozy does she look on Lance's chest?

Props and gracias to all our rock star friends for making us feel loved and blessed with meals, gifts, visits, calls, texts and prayers.  These came from lovely Lisa P just for moi.  Nothing says happiness like pink Gerber daisies.

Grateful

There's a lot to process about the past couple of weeks.  A whole lot.  I've had so many friends tearfully tell me what a blessing our story has been to follow and how amazing the end result is.  Its been rather touching for me to see people's investment in us and in our family.  And they're right.  They're so right. For me, its been tough being in the midst of "living it" to really comprehend everything that has taken place.  I haven't taken time to really think about the big picture.  We've been so focused on living each day, step by step, and haven't allowed ourselves to get caught up in the big picture.  Does that make any sense?  But now it's over and we have these two amazing kids.  And no one can change that or take that from us.  We don't have to live in anxiety anymore.  We don't have to pray that our baby girl will end up in our arms.  We don't have to talk to Dude about bringing his baby sissy home.  She's home.  And she's perfect (well, minus some nasty gas issues) and healthy and so chubby and beautiful.

The newborn stage isn't my very favorite cup of tea, I'll be honest.  I need a few weeks to adjust and be okay just being still with a sometimes happy, sometimes screaming infant.  And so, in the midst of living the reality of worrying about who has to poop, eat or who needs attention and adjusting to catering to this little bean, I've been trying to take some time to really think about the big picture and how far we've come.   It kinda seems like a movie that I've been viewing outside of myself.  A movie with a really miraculous ending.  Below is my "grateful check list."  Just a smattering of things that our great God has blessed us with as of late.

#1.  Dude.  In all his Dudeness.  And his ability to adapt.

#2.  Princess Squirt.  As of today, 15 whole days old.

#3.  My right and patient hand, Tim.  He is everything that I'm not during this newborn phase and the most amazing Dad our kids could ever dream to ask for.

#4.  A picture perfect Wyoming experience.  Aside from an 18 hour labor and an emotionally draining day for all of us, we couldn't have asked for a more ideal experience.  The weather cooperated for the drive up and back, Brook never wavered, her family was awesome to hang with, Squirt came out healthy and a girl (I was a bit nervous about that "oops, it's a boy" possibility, the hotel experience went surprisingly well, we stayed healthy, Dude was in excellent hands and a happy camper and we came home in remarkable time.

#5.  Understanding and generous employers.  They're like family and for that, we're oh so grateful.

#6.  Supportive, helpful, loving and super fun friends and family.  They've enveloped us these past months and make the not so good days that much better.

#7.  A baby who digs night time sleeping.  She might be gassy McPherson during the day at times, but she pulls 5 to 6 hour stretches at night.  What more could we ask for really?

#8.  Meals.  So many delish meals.  Meals that this somewhat overwhelmed Mama would not be making otherwise.  Thank you.

#9.  This blog.  It's astonishing how many people can stay connected to our little journey through this thing called the Internet.  It enables me to ignore the phone when talking is not what's in the cards for that moment.  I WILL call you back eventually.

#10.  God's grace.  May sound cliche, but God has carried us through this journey with strength, patience and hope.  Thus Squirt's middle name.  Hope has really held us up and allowed us to stay optimistic.  In addition to that, the church I grew up in (Hope Christian Reformed) has been like an extended family my entire existence.  I've always known I'd use the name for a girl and I can finally say that I fulfilled that lifelong wish.

Oh...I'm also grateful that Squirt is sleeping soundly, minus gas pains today.  Let's "hope" that continues:)  That's my grateful for the day.

Look at that double chin.  Getting bigger by the day.  Or maybe by the hour.

I forgot to upload this in an earlier post.  Just a few ladies that I'm oh so grateful for.

Papa Time

My dear dad arrived this past Friday night.  Our new family of four packed into the car for the first time, after a bit of drama trying to get organized, and met Papa on the bridge at the airport.  Dude was ecstatically running around singing and dancing and Squirt slept soundly for her introduction.  We didn't do much while he was here, but I'm pretty sure he was okay with that.  It was a treasure having him around to see Squirt in her newborn prime and hang with the Dude.  There were some tears when he left...not from Dude...from his Mama.  Not having family around is not so easy right now.  We'll figure it out, I know.  Baby steps.

Da Bears provided some quality bonding time on Sunday.  Go Bears!  Squirt even had a shirt, but waking her up for the photo didn't seem quite right.

She has found her fingers folks.  Good thing since she's not a huge fan of the passie.

We spent Sunday night introducing Papa to Kinect.  Sorry, I know I've posted lots of these pics but look at the air my dadio got!  Not bad for 45 huh?

How cute is this?  They did hurdles against each other.  Dad won...but  not by much:)

We did get some pool time in on Monday.  Thanks for entertaining our duder Dad!  Squirt wasn't quite ready to do the swimming thing.

A Parade of Love

Our friends have just begun parading through to meet our little peanut.  If you haven't seen her yet, just call me!  We'd love to have you.  I haven't been good about calling all my loved friends, so don't take offense if you haven't heard from me please.  It has nothing to do with my appreciation of your lovely selves.  Without every one's love and support, I truly don't know how we could have gotten through this whole experience.  God has blessed us immensely with all of you.  Thanks for being you.

Enough of the sap.  Here are some super fun pics from our visitors thus far.  Many more to come!

We did get some smiling shots with the three of them, but this just showcases our Dude in a nutshell.   Why be normal, really.

Again, posing is totally over rated.  Especially when Maria gives me a cool new view finder.  Look at our little Delaney.  She's just not so little anymore.  Sigh.

Eric and Megan ATE up their time with Squirt.  Who knew that Eric was such a baby lover?  He was giddy as a school girl to hold her.

And our dear Papa.  He arrived on Friday evening for a few days of grand kid packed fun.

For good measure, here are a few extra shots.  Our awesome donut shop neighbors gifted us with 2 dozen sugary treats.  Dude exclaimed, "Sissy, look at ME!  I'm eating a super HUGE donut!"

Little peanut in her little swing.  Thanks Lance and Katie!

Calming down after our first bath.  Oh the trauma.  She did forgive us eventually.

Photos Galore

We've got a ton of photos to get through, so I'm throwing some faves into this mass photo post.  Enjoy!  We certainly are.

The ladies at the Homewood Suites we stayed at adopted us as their own.  They even gave Squirt a bag of presents before he headed home.  We'll be adding them to our Christmas card list for sure.

My sweet Maria adorned our mailbox with pretty in pink balloons.  A warm welcome home.

Grandma took Squirt from my arms when we walked in the door and pretty much didn't let her go until she hopped on her plane.  She fell in love instantly:)

Our very favorite introduction thus far was to our daughter's future husband, Landon.  It's kind of an arranged marriage per say.  Cara and I have a picture just like this one with Duder and Bradster.  Pretty phenomenal how God works.  Especially between our two little families.

How cute is this?  Two rough and tough dudes and their little babes.

LOVE.  That's all I can say about this picture. Love.

Squirt refuses to spread her legs out.  Maybe when she's 3 weeks like Landon she'll come out of the fetal position.  This is the impossibly adorable difference between an 8 and a 10 pounder.

Amongst getting home, reacquainting ourselves with our son, unpacking and breathing, we celebrated my birthday.  Mom V made a gourmet meal and a cake, which Dude was charged with decorating.  Delish.  Thanks for making me feel special in the midst of so much chaos Mom!

My favorite place to be.  Imagine how much more I love this chair now that there's a baby on my shoulder.

Duder is quite the little helper already.  He's a bit on the rough side, but we're working on that.  Rather than bear hugs, we give bunny hugs.  And rather than pounding on Sissy's back, we love tap her.

I don't know what we would have done without Grandma those first couple of days.  They look good together don't they?  THANK YOU Grandma.  Squirt misses you already (as does Dude...as do we).

Our big eyed beauty.  She's so incredibly alert when she's not catching zzzzzz's.  Love her awake time!

My 2 munchkins.
